EASE Campus puts learners at the centre of the learning process enabling them to decide when and how they want to learn through a dynamically configured personal learning workbench which adjusts to the course being studied. The workbench provides learners with information and support for the courses on which they are enrolled including access to course materials, interactive forums, tutor support and assessments and evaluation feedback.
Accessing materials on line
Users can launch web-based courseware, networked computer based training and multimedia through their browser. The course materials are displayed as a visual Course Map which sets out the sequence of learning for the learner.
Bookmarking and annotation
Users can bookmark materials for later reference and add their own
notes using the annotation tool.
Personal library
Users also have access to an online resource library. Tutors and
learners can index and add topical resources (e.g. recent case studies, articles or useful weblinks) to the library for future
reference or for use in project work.
Search
Search options allow learners to search EASE Campus resources
as well as the Internet. Resources and web links located during an
Internet search can be added to a learner’s personal library.
Announcements and Course Calendar
Learners can access personal and course notice boards and a
course calendar with details of all course events. Tutors and
administrators can create and edit entries in calendars and notice
boards.
Managing learning online
The workbench provides useful day-to-day tools for users to
manage their learning including e-mail lists, profiles of tutors and
fellow learners, (containing course information) and an electronic
notebook. An information panel on the Learner Home Page provides updates to the learning including upcoming events, assessment deadlines, e-mails and new forum entries.
Progress monitoring
Learners can see which materials they have completed and which
they still have to do to complete the course.
Assessment and feedback
Results from online tests and activities are stored in the gradebook.
Students can submit assessments online to their tutor and view
feedback and grades. EASE supports full interworking with SCORM compliant learning
materials.
Configuring the workbench
Individuals can configure their workbench to suit their own preferences, including default colours and font sizes for accessibility. Learners enrolled on more than one programme can select the programme for current study and the workbench is then setup with relevant materials, references, message boards and so on.
Learning Communities
The true power of the Web lies in its ability to create collaborative
learning communities that introduce human interaction.
EASE Campus offers an integrated suite of communication tools that can be used by learners, tutors, mentors or anyone else involved in the learning process. The tools can be configured to promote networking and co-working within a cohort group.
E-mail support
Web based e-mail is fully integrated including the ability to build email
lists, send attachments, send external e-mail, integrate and
forward e-mail to other e-mail systems e.g. Office
Discussion forums
EASE Campus has integrated discussion forums. Participants are
prompted when there are new entries on the bulletin boards and
can reply in forum or privately by email. Set-up, maintenance and archiving features allow tutors and administrators to create new forums, edit and delete messages and to archive forums when complete. Discussion forums can be created for whole groups or for syndicates within the group.
Chat Rooms
Password protected, synchronous keyboard and audio chat
sessions can be timetabled. Chat sessions can be saved and
archived for later viewing by the learner or the tutor and can be
printed.
1:1 Chat
Individuals can invite learners or tutors who are online to a 1:1
chat. It is possible to use all the system features while carrying out
a 1:1 chat making it a useful tool for online support.
Virtual communication
The full version of EASE Campus provides integrated white-board facilities and synchronous audio/visual conferencing between tutor and individuals or groups of learners so one-to-one and group working (e.g. remote classroom) can all be conducted online.
Tutor management
EASE Campus enables one or more tutors to be assigned to a
programme as a tutor team. Lead tutors, workshop tutors and
assessment tutors can all be specified. The tutor workbench
provides tools for effective course management and support
including:
- maintenance of course and group notices
- managing assessment data
- providing feedback
- use of internal email services
- creating and editing discussion forums
- setting course schedules
- facilitating chat sessions
- creating and integrating new resources
The same tutor or trainer can be assigned to different tutor teams and the tutor workbench allows for the relevant course and learner group to be selected for support actions. All support actions are recorded in the EASE database and a complete record analysed to address any support quality issues raised by learners.
Learner Management
EASE Campus contains administration features to register
learners, set-up and manage learner cohorts and track progress.
Registration
Registration templates allow the registration process to be tailored
to capture relevant learner information for each course. EASE can
be configured to e-mail learners with immediate confirmation of
registration, provide joining instructions, pre-work etc.
Blended learning
Features exist, particularly when EASE Campus is used in conjunction with EASE Centre, to administer blended learning programmes and to automatically register learners on linked events.
Learner authorisation
Administrators can control when the registration process is completed (e.g. receipt of payment, approval of line manager, review of transcript report for awarded credits, etc.) and the course booking is confirmed.
Cohort management
Learners can be grouped together to study a course. Learners within a group share communication tools like forums and chat rooms. Study groups can also share files using the file library, email facilities and virtual communication.
Course calendar
A schedule of events can be defined for each cohort. The calendar supports a series of event types including assessment deadlines, workshops, online chat, start new module, end course and so on. Event triggers can be defined for each event type e.g. emails can be sent to learners in advance of an assessment deadline as a reminder or to notify that assessment results and feedback are available.
Data integration
Tailored features exist to interface EASE information with local or enterprise systems, together with the ability to automate batch or real-time transfers and data synchronisation with SQL databases. These mechanisms enable invoicing or cost recovery, plus the transfer of learning outcomes into other corporate systems (e.g. personnel training records).
Course Development
Course tutors and instructional designers can use a Developer
toolkit to define most course structures from online courses to
blended learning programmes. A Developer toolkit enables
custom-built and third party courseware to be interwoven with
discussion forums, tutor marked assessments and online tests to
create a modular programme map that describes the course
structure to the learner. Additional tools enable the course developer to add in scheduled events (on or offline) and libraries of further learning resources to create sophisticated learning programmes.
Re-usable content
Learning resources are indexed and stored in a content database
making them fully reusable between courses. The Course
development toolkit provides tools to search the database and add
learning objects to courses.
Reporting, tracking and evaluation
EASE Campus records all learning activities and milestones
allowing summary reports to be generated.
Learner evaluation
Evaluation forms can be created and distributed for completion
online or through print. Results can be interrogated and reported
using the Report Generator.
Learner behaviour
Tracking and evaluation tools support a continuous improvement
process by enabling:
- learners to complete course evaluations online or through the return of printed forms for administrative input
- tutors and administrators to track patterns of learner behaviour in the e_learning environment to establish which resources are being used and which are not
- instructional designers to analyse online test results and graded assignments to identify patterns of questions or topics that learners find difficult, to identify areas for improvement in the learning content or tutor support services.
EASE report generator
The EASE Report Generator allows users to define report formats to perform fast query searches on the EASE database. As EASE uses a standard SQL database then any appropriate third party report generator (e.g. Crystal Reports) or data mining/statistical analysis tool can also be used.
Standard reports
EASE Campus comes with a set of standard set of reports
including reports for tracking system usage.
Security
EASE Campus has comprehensive security features to give
maximum data security. Learners, mentors, line managers,
administrators, tutors all have profiles that can be set up to provide
them with access to relevant data and menu functions.
EASE Campus configurations
EASE Campus is available in three configurations:
- EASE Campus provides all features described in this
datasheet and offers a fully scalable delivery and management
platform for organizations that intend to deploy e-learning or
blended learning solutions as a key part of their learning and
development strategy.
-
EASE Course provides a learning platform to deliver Internet
and Intranet based courseware to a distributed audience. It is
the ideal solution for a training provider who wants to introduce
greater flexibility into programme delivery or to reach a
broader audience using self-study or blended study
techniques.
- EASE Compact provides an opportunity to deliver packaged
e-learning content to registered learners but does not provide
the communication tools associated with an e-learning
environment. As with all EASE modules, EASE Compact
supports full content interworking so that all learner generated
data and test scores are stored and can be retrieved from the
database.
EASE comprises mix and match modules that can be used individually
to meet specific needs or collectively to provide an enterprise wide learning and content management solution.
